5. Past Simple – Lydia’s mother insisted she learn French
Lydia didn’t study English at school. Her mother was a French teacher, and insisted she learn French instead. Like many teenagers, Lydia wasn’t very interested in school work, and so didn’t realize how important English was.
After finishing high school, Lydia found it difficult to get a job. She didn’t really have an idea of what she wanted to do, and there were many other young people like her chasing the same opportunities.
After more than a year without work, Lydia decided that she would spend her savings traveling abroad. She wanted to visit London, but knew she needed to speak some English in order to survive.
Lydia’s mother was enthusiastic about the idea, and offered to pay for an English course. They searched on the Internet and found a beginner’s course on Saturday mornings.
The teacher was from London and didn’t speak any Italian during the lessons. The course book didn’t contain any Italian either, which Lydia found difficult at first.
As the months passed, Lydia found that she was able to understand more and more of what her teacher said. Studying English became easier, and she started to work hard.
At the end of the course, Lydia’s level in English was much better. She understood enough to travel to London, and decided to leave immediately.

Hello Daniel.
I found the text very interesting.
In fact, he lets you know about new ways of speaking.
I can not understand everything, but with the help of the school
I still hope to succeed in it.
Thank you. See you at school
