Chapter 8 – Accomplices
“I have to enter the company warehouse when no one is there, and I need your help.”
Marco is shocked and scared by what Amir has said. He remains silent for a few moments.
“But that’s wrong. And dangerous! I don’t want to get involved in your revolution…”
Despite Marco’s intial refusal, Amir still seems confident of persuading him to cooperate.
“As you wish, but be prepared not to see your girlfriend again” he warns.
Marco can’t imagine losing Reya!
And that would be certain to happen if her police general father found out about the relationship.
Marco realises he is being blackmailed.
He must help the rebels, or he will lose everything that is important to him!
Reluctantly, he allows himself to be persuaded:
“Ok, tell me exactly what I have to do…”
The next day Marco asks one of his colleagues, who normally works at night, to change shifts with him.
No one likes night work, so the colleague is happy to agree, no questions asked!
Towards midnight, Marco tells his co-workers that he doesn’t feel well, and needs to get some fresh air.
He knows the security guards have already gone outside for a smoke, so it’s easy for Marco to enter the security office unseen.
He removes the extra set of warehouse keys from the board on the security office wall, substituting them with a different set that Amir has given him.
The next evening he hands the stolen set of warehouse keys to Amir:
“I’ve done what you wanted. Now leave me and Reya alone!”
That weekend, when no one is working at the warehouse, one of Amir’s rebel friends attracts the attention of the security guards with a few shots from his pistol.
The guards jump into their 4×4 to go and find the origin of the sounds.
While they are gone, Amir and others enter the company warehouse. More rebels wait outside with a large van.
The theft is carried out expertly and safely. The rebels take everything they need, lock the warehouse again, and leave.
No one has seen them.
