Chapter 8 – The toast
“So, what happened next?” asks a very elegant young woman.
“Come on, Riccardo, finish the story,” adds Sara, in her white dress.
“Well, with a great effort, we came down the mountain. It was difficult but I was never afraid and so I saved Giulio and Mattia from the snow,” Riccardo tells them. “I’m a bit of an expert in the mountains, you know.”
“Really?” says another young woman, “Do you like walking?”
“Oh yes, for me walking in the snow is a real pleasure,” replies Riccardo, taking a glass of white wine to toast the bride.
It’s Giulio and Sara’s wedding day. The ceremony went very well, and now everyone is gathered for the reception. It’s very warm outside, so tables and chairs are arranged under the trees.
The bride’s guests are sitting together at a table listening with admiration to Riccardo’s story. Giulio and Mattia are standing a little apart from the group, watching and listening.
“Riccardo always tells the story his way, doesn’t he?” says Giulio.
“And every time he’s the brave one,” laughs Mattia.
The two approach Riccardo’s table.
“Well, have you finished the story?” asks Giulio and raises his glass. “The cake has arrived and now it’s time for a toast.”
“Sure!” says Ricardo “Come on, raise your glasses.”
Everyone stands and waits for the toast.
Giulio raises his glass towards Sara and smiles.
“To love, to friendship, and to winter adventures with a happy ending!”
