Chapter 8 – The Mystery is Solved
Inspector Benvenga is losing patience.
“What am I supposed to make of this story?”
At that moment another policeman rushes into the office.
“Excuse me, Inspector, but this is urgent! There are some people here asking to see you. They’re from the Travellers’ Restaurant and they’re all very angry!”
The owner of the restaurant follows him into the room with a young waiter. The latter has a broken nose and his companion is furious.
“Inspector Benvenga, I am here to report an aggressive attack in my restaurant. A mad tourist….”
At that moment, the restaurant owner catches sight of Signor Maluintesi and shouts “That’s him! He’s the one who hit my waiter! And he almost destroyed my restaurant! It’s him!”
Just then another man enters the room. He’s wearing a blue suit and a yellow tie….and has a knife protruding from his back!
“But you…you’re dead!” exclaims Signor Malintesi, shocked.
“Yes, I was dead….like I am every Friday evening!” the man replies.
“Mamma mia! This is all beyond me!” exclaims the Inspector, wearily, “Enough!”
Everyone in the room falls silent. Signora Malintesi jumps to her feet, bursting with frustration.
“Let me speak now, Inspector! There’s all this confusion but I’ve been trying to tell you what happened from the moment we arrived here. Be quiet everyone and listen!”
Everyone stares at the woman in amazement. They all stop speaking.
“In the restaurant they were playing a role-playing game, it was a Dinner with Crime.
No one died, Inspector, they were only actors! I understood this from the start, but my husband, as usual, did not! He never listens, and as a result we have this disaster!”
