Chapter 5 – In search of Elisa
Elisa packs her shopping into bags and leaves the supermarket.
Claudio, with the bottles of wine still in his hands and his head full of memories, gazes after her.
“Hurry up! There’s a queue behind you!”
Instead of a plait she now has short hair. She’s wearing make-up and, in place of the jeans, very tight trousers and high- heeled shoes. This is Elisa today, a woman who seems very confident and self-assured. And even more beautiful.
“Sir, can you hear me? That’s twenty euros!” The cashier is losing patience now.
At a stroke Claudio is jerked back to reality. He pays for the wine and tries to follow Elisa. Outside the store he looks around, but she has disappeared. And then he realises he has left the supermarket with just the two bottles of wine in his hands.
“Damn, I left the rest of the shopping in the trolley. How stupid of me!”
On his way home, Claudio wonders how he can get to see Elisa again.
He decides that his best chance of seeing the only woman he ever loved once more is to go to the supermarket at the same time every evening in the hope that she will reappear.
