Chapter 2 – The Supermarket
Claudio leaves his office and lights a cigarette.
The meeting with his clients, a wealthy couple, has gone well. The man was satisfied with his new apartment, though his wife didn’t seem very interested in the plans, only in the young architect in front of her.
It’s almost six o’clock and Claudio still hasn’t decided who he’s going to ask out.
“Perhaps Valentina,” he thinks, “but no, she’s a redhead with green eyes, just like Sonia…. Francesca, then? She’s blonde, pretty, sweet…. but, no, this evening I want a brunette! Chiara or Alessia?”
He’s still undecided when he sees a supermarket and remembers that this morning his fridge was almost empty. If he wants to prepare a meal he’ll have to do some shopping.
He sets out around the store, putting items in his trolley: eggs, bread, milk, ham, cheese, meat, salad, tomatoes, spinach, apples, oranges, wine….
Suddenly, just as he’s taking a packet of sugar, he sees a young woman. She’s at the fruit aisle, selecting a punnet of strawberries. “What legs!” he says to himself.
