Chapter 3 – Hard Work
Maria and Gioacchino took a taxi to the place where preparations for the show were in full swing. They entered through the big door and crossed the large entrance hall that lead through to the designers’ dressing rooms.
There were people everywhere, designers and models trying on the clothes but also hairdressers running here and there, and porters and other workmen moving furniture and making deliveries.
Having made their way to the designer’s dressing room, Maria and Gioacchino began looking at the splendid pieces in Gioacchino’s winter collection. Maria was captivated by the fantastic florals and found the collection very original and extremely beautiful.
They were interrupted by a knock on the door. It was the delivery boy. Young and rather timid looking, he was wearing a blue overall and a matching peaked cap.
“There is a delivery for Signor Gioacchino,” he said.
“Yes, thank you. It must be the bride’s necklace. It’s the best piece! It will be worn by the last model at the end of the show, the grande finale.”
Gioacchino looked at the delivery boy and said “But I’ve seen you before! Only I don’t remember where….”
“Yes, sir, I used to work for you. I wanted to be a designer….” replied the boy.
“Ah, yes. Yes, I remember. Well, I’m glad you have a new job now,” replied Gioacchino, smiling.
After making the delivery the young man left. Gioacchino turned to Maria:
“Yes, I remember him. That young man worked for me, but I got rid of him. He had no talent and was always coming in late. And once he even lost one of my dresses!”
Maria thanked Gioacchino for showing her his collection. “They’re unique. You’ll be a huge success!” she told him, “See you on Saturday at the show.”
